Any student who does not follow the prescribed sequence of math courses
must get prior permission from the Math Department chairperson.

1. All students enter math at the level recommended by their 8th grade teacher.

2. Students must earn 30 credits of math to graduate from Northgate.

3. Students must pass Geometry to graduate from Northgate.

4. Students progress through courses according to the flow chart above.

Note to Students and Parents:
Correct placement in mathematics is crucial in order to maximize learning. Choosing a class that is too easy for your abilities will result in boredom and too little learning. It will make colleges believe that you lack motivation. Choosing a class that is too difficult will result in frustration, low grades and incomplete learning. Your math teacher can advise you on your best choice for next year.
